Getting Your Mortgage Back on Track

Job loss, divorce, illness or a financial crisis may threaten your home, especially if you get behind on mortgage payments.  The HomeOwnership Center staff will help you evaluate the options based on your circumstances.  This includes a review of your eligibility for the Obama Administration's Making Home Affordable Program.  Your options might include:

  • Refinancing your mortgage
  • Modification of your existing mortgage
  • A repayment plan
  • Short sale
  • Deed-in-lieu

Mortgage Information Meetings are available to help homeowners understand the options offered by most lenders.  Check out our page on Classes for more information.

The HomeOwnership Center also administers two Rescue Fund programs that offer financial assistance to help those with a temporary hardship get back on track:

  • Ohio Home Rescue Fund offered in partnership with Ohio Housing Finance Agency and NeighborWorks of Ohio Collaborative.  Homeowners who meet income qualifications and other requirements may apply for a mortgage assistance loan for the lesser of $5,000.00 or three months' mortgage payments.
  • Preserving the American Dream offered with support from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati and local financial institutions.  Homeowners who meet income qualifications and other requirements may apply for a mortgage assistance grant up to $2,500.  Participating lenders include Wright-Patt Credit Union, Fifth Third Bank, Liberty Savings, Huntington Bank, Day-Air Credit Union, Dayton Firefighters Credit Union, River Valley Credit Union, Universal 1 Credit Union.
